from a young soldier who passes from time to time to read her a story...a
story intended to convince her to wait no longer.
Made with the help of the French Embassy of New Zealand and Magdalena
Aotearoa, Hades Window premiered at the WIFT Festival, New Zealand
and in France at the Festival des Antipodes de Saint-Tropez.
SHORT SHARP SHORTS review for WIFT magazine by Mary Anne Bourke:
" A compelling piece of screen poetry...In black and white, with
on-screen text and music doing what dialogue might conventionally
do, this is radical work that claims a special place in the canon.
It features the late Sally Rodwell playing a strikingly raw version
of herself...
The final image of this character riding across the hills and down
to the sea at dusk, straight-backed upon the shoulders of her man,
has to be one of the most eloquent and 'true' screen images ever made
in this country. On the one hand, like all great screen works, it is
a kind of miracle; on the other, it is the natural empathy and artistic
fellowship - a tribute to the creative spirit of Sally and the late
Alan Brunton, and of course, to France Hervé."
